Smidapaper Updates 28th April 2012
Dear smidapaper friends,
I’m wondering if all of you had the opportunity to take a little break from the everyday, whether for Easter weekend or ‘spring break.’ The thing about living in a tropical country is that the seasons are not defined. Well, in fact it’s either hot, or rainy. I did manage to do a spot of traveling and experience a little bit of cool weather, though. More importantly, I had the chance to catch up with family and friends, which was one of my goals for this year of semi retirement. To be sure there was a lot of photo taking and the task that lies ahead is to catch up with “Project Life” which is a week by week memory log of the entire year inspired by Ali Edwards. (Go to the modern Vintage blog for some peeks on the project)
The weekend store reopened after the break with a mini sale.Everything in the store, including new arrivals, is discounted with the following conditions:
any 3 items at 15% off, must be purchased in multiples of 3
any 5 patterned paper at 20% off, purchase in multiples of 5
(note : if you buy 3 patterned papers then a 15% discount will be applied)

We have also established a bargain corner, not just a trolley , but a whole section dedicated to not absolutely current but still totally awesome products. Here you will find deep bargains such as our RM5 for 3 pcs patterned paper racks, RM 5 items (some originally priced at RM45), these include rub ons, trims, sticker and die cut sheets and more. You might also want to look out for the 50% section, clear stamps, chipboard albums, ultra thick embossing powder and other goodies are sitting here waiting for a new home. Bargain corner items are replenished weekly so come by often. You never know what treasure you might unearth! (Note: this section is cash only)

Ah, treasure! To a crafter, new supplies are indeed a treasure and we’ve brought in some to delight. Look out for new product from Crate Paper, Amy Tangerine, Cosmo Cricket and Pink Paislee. Also random replenishments, distress inks and stuff like that. Remember, all new product comes under the 15% magic wand as well, in multiples of 3 and 20% for paper in multiples of 5.

I’ve re inserted our shopping days card, in case you’re new and forgotten how our store works or if you’ve forgotten which days we’re open. Stop by the store to pick up a shopping day postcard so you’ll always know when to shop at smidapaper.
 Shopping Days Card
One last thing! If you have a valid smidapaper stamp card you are now automatically entitled to a 10% discount every day until the end of May. And if you’re new, enjoy this privilege with a minimum RM50 purchase.
More updates soon! I am looking forward to seeing you at the store and to welcome you once again to the creative life.
See you soon!

Final Days Update

Dear smidapaper friends,
As it comes closer to our last day at Straits Quay, which is on Nov 24th, I thought I might take a little time to update you on what will be happening. First though, I really must thank you all for making it a great year for us. I remember it being a time full of anticipation and hope, this time last year, flash forward a year and we are getting ready to pack up the store. A lot of you have asked ‘why?’ and all I can say is that we made the difficult decision based on a lot of reasons and while I prefer not to dwell on the negatives, there are some positives that came out of it and getting to know and serve all of you, has been a huge happy one. I hope that stumbling upon smidapaper has brought joy and added value to your journey.
By now you must be saying, ok, ok, get on with it, what happens to us? Well, not all the plans have been established at this point. In simple terms, I don’t know for sure if we will come back as a full fledged scrapbook store but I would like to introduce you to a new idea. ” Random SHOPPING DAYS! ” What that means is that we will open for a few days month , At A DIFFERENT LOCATION so that you can still get your supplies and carry on crafting , keeping your memories and making meaningful cards & gifts. These SHOPPING DAYS will not be fixed days but will be decided monthly and then Posted On Our Blog or sent to your e mail via SMIDA stories.
A week after we close, we will announce our SHOPPING DAYS for December, so check www.smidapaper.com for another update on December 1st. Ok, so that’s another smidapaper concept you will need to remember. “UPDATES ON THE BLOG! ”
So, two things to remember, ‘Shopping days ‘ and ‘updates on the blog’. In the meantime, there are still 4 more days to shop at our Straits Quay store and I know you will not want to miss the chance to gather some merry supplies for your holiday crafting . Thank you , thank you for all the kindness and encouragement. And for the inspiration. Don’t stop creating!
Till we meet again.

an excerpt from the modern vintage blog…
As in all stories, this smidapaper one has a plot. In fact, as it unfolded, it became more of a play. So of course there were actors, lead & supporting. Director and stage hands.A hero . Maybe more than one. Bad guys, definitely more than one. If only to make the story more colorful . From humble beginnings the story evolved and in the last act, everyone was transported to a grand set. And with all stories or plays, there is an end. This story has played a long run.

I made this layout mostly with My Mind’s Eye paper from their Lost & Found 2 collection. I added bold embellishments from Crate paper’s Random collection and swirly bling from Prima somehow found its way to lend some glamour to the page. As if to celebrate the role of the subject and how precious a part of my life it has been. And it has.

We will begin to phase out the smidapaper story. If you have always wanted or thought about running a creative business, maybe you would like to talk to me or drop me a line. In the meantime, we will continue to serve with as much gusto as ever, right up until the time the curtain falls.

setting up shop
With 2 days to go , things are getting really exciting! We’ve been setting up shop all day and we expect to keep doing that right up until Wednesday night to get everything ready for all you people by Thursday. Here’s a peek , with Cindy Lee setting up her favourite section. Brave leap for CIndy to leave the corporate world and ‘take flight’ with Smidapaper, doing what she loves. Cindy hosts a ‘thank you’ tag , make & take on Friday, which happens to be Thanksgiving Day. Make a tag to give to someone, show how thankful you are… See you all soon!

smidapaper loves sizzix!!
smidapaper gals had a blast at Made With Love’s Sizzix Retailer Event. We spent 12 hours having the most fun ever with Julianna Hudgins, Sandra, Elvira, Swee Ching , Jasmine & Aida. Three cheers for the “Loving’ hospitality! These gals rock and smidapaper came home to Penang with the Grand Lucky Draw prize- a Sizzix Big Shot Pro & Pro Die. Sandra & Jasmine almost ‘died’ presenting it.

cards and great company at smidapaper studio
Last Saturday our cosy space at smidapaper studio was buzzing with activity and life. After our short break of reorganizing and hooking up a new cashiering system, the store was happy to welcome exuberant cardmakers into its arms.
Cindy Lee’s cardmaking class that day was a sold out affair, forcing us to even add an extra space for one more crafter. Everyone had an absolute blast, some rekindling their love for crafting and some being introduced to the array of tools and gadgets for the first time. Even though some were strangers it felt like a gathering of old friends sharing in the adventure of creating works of art.

Since it felt like a party, Sheila decided to make it even more fun by hosting an impromptu lucky draw and one beaming student won a brand new set of Practicing Creativity hot air balloon clear stamps. At 5pm, everyone left pleased with their creations and the splendid afternoon they had.
To get in on the action, check here for Cindy Lee’s monthly cardmaking classes. They’re really popular so book ahead and be prepared for a jolly good time.

schedule a crop!
For the past three weeks, we’ve been meeting Friday mornings and I’m thinking it’s worth the 7am wake up call to have at least one ‘guaranteed’ layout a week!
I’m working on an album for Sarah’s high school years and I’m mighty happy to see the pages filling up.
Why not schedule a crop this week?
