Altered art | Mini Canvas

dsc009801

The other day i set out to make a gift. My scrap supplies were all laid out. A scrapbook layout seemed inappropriate. So I dug out my mini canvas and voila!

It’s so much fun. It’s a great alternative to basic scrapbook pages and you get instant gratification. You can start by painting a background with acrylic paint then slap on different bits of scrap papers, stickers, stamped images, etc. The butterfly here is embossed with distressed embossing powder.

It took me about half an hour to complete and I had so much fun I even made a box to put it in.

So if your scrapbook pages are getting you a little restless, whip up a mini canvas project to get you feeling creative again=)

wedding bells are ringing | making memories

I don’t know about you guys but I seem to have a lot of friends getting married or engaged these days. And so I’ve been having fun with the Making Memories Wedding Collection. Here’s a peek at the guest book i decorated (from the collection) and a layout which i plan to have framed as a gift for the happy couple.

On a sappy note, I used to sit beside this girl at primary school and here she is getting married. (sobs) I love that with scrapbooking, we can easily make lovely, memorable gifts for momentous occasions like these.

The whole collection is available at smidapaper.

Design Team ideas | cards by Sin Yee

As we’ve been mentioning, Sin Yee has joined our design team and her specialty is cards. She’s been cardmaking since 2008 and her cards are really pretty. You can see how she pays attention to detail (she loves paper piecing). Her current favourite paper brand is October Afternoon. Here are some samples

This sweet baby card is made using papers from the Ducks in a Row range. This collection has a pastel palette without being too washed out.

What I’m Loving Now

Colours turned down. Mixing patterned paper. ( & still in love with flowers)

In this layout I used at least 8 patterned papers, from a few different collections & brands. Who knew yellow would work with purple! =)
Try using many different papers in different sizes & proportions. Define each with distress ink & use slim strips to frame & separate.

dsc06027

Flowery products have never been prettier! Use different textures , even rub ons, choosing complimentary colors to unify your layout.

dsc06029

I’m also loving die cut shapes and messing them up.  I’m not really a technique person. What I really like is working with colour schemes & combos and being surprised
when they work.  Lately, I’ve been thinking of ways to incorporate more journaling into my pages. The usual journal tags are usually too small to tell the whole story. I’ve taken to occupying 1/3 of a page to tell my story and in mini books have found all sorts of ways to add journaling pages.

We will be at Cziplee Plus, Bangsar this weekend for some workshops. Come by if you have questions on journaling, colour matching…

Next week, we will introduce our new DT, who will share her beautiful card creations with us!

Our “This Is Love”, “What a hoot” & “Girl Friday” Kits have sold out on our e store, not sure if there are any more available at Cziplee but grab them if they do cos they won’t be repeated. Thanks for your support =) More kits coming up soon!

Also more shopping days!

Making Memories Slice Machine| Cards & more

I’ve never really been a big fan of die cut machines despite trying Esther’s cricut before and Sheila urging me to try the Slice. I always thought it’d be a big hassle and preferred to settle with manufactured die cut pieces and such. But THEN, i finally got around to testing out the slice and now..i am in love.
The slice is so easy & quick and the end results are perfect, no strange excess bits hanging off your die cut. I played around with the wedding design card and conjured a die cut frame, flower motif and the very pretty “always” title with this magic machine and made a simple wedding card.
Can’t wait to spend more time with this wonderful gadget! One of the highlights of the Slice is that it works cordless for at least 90 minutes of cutting between charging, so it really is fuss-free.

product highlight | making memories 12 in, 3 ring page protectors with 4×6 in pockets

Last year I worked with a 6×6 in minibook to record the highlights of the year. I was just thinking of doing something similar when I came across these page protectors.
Yesterday I started playing with them =) Other manufacturers have come up with similar products but since most of my albums are from making memories, this is the perfect fit.
Loads of space for journaling & photos and I think it will look great mixed up with full page layouts. Really fun doing tiny layouts!

Try using less busy patterned paper so your journaling will show up clearer!
