The other day i set out to make a gift. My scrap supplies were all laid out. A scrapbook layout seemed inappropriate. So I dug out my mini canvas and voila! It’s so much fun. It’s a great alternative to basic scrapbook pages and you get instant gratification. You can start by painting a background with acrylic paint then slap on different bits of scrap papers, stickers, stamped images, etc. The butterfly here is embossed with distressed embossing powder. It took me about half an hour to complete and I had so much fun I even made a box to put it in. So if your scrapbook pages are getting you a little restless, whip up a mini canvas project to get you feeling creative again=)
I don’t know about you guys but I seem to have a lot of friends getting married or engaged these days. And so I’ve been having fun with the Making Memories Wedding Collection. Here’s a peek at the guest book i decorated (from the collection) and a layout which i plan to have framed as a gift for the happy couple. On a sappy note, I used to sit beside this girl at primary school and here she is getting married. (sobs) I love that with scrapbooking, we can easily make lovely, memorable gifts for momentous occasions like these. The whole collection is available at smidapaper.
Guestbook comes with pre-printed pages.=) LOVELY.

As we’ve been mentioning, Sin Yee has joined our design team and her specialty is cards. She’s been cardmaking since 2008 and her cards are really pretty. You can see how she pays attention to detail (she loves paper piecing). Her current favourite paper brand is October Afternoon. Here are some samples
Happy happy colours!
Sticker flowers from Sassafras Lass. (i love her picker fence!)
This sweet baby card is made using papers from the Ducks in a Row range. This collection has a pastel palette without being too washed out.
This lovely wedding card is made with papers from the Making Memories wedding collection. The classic colours and designs are perfect for wedding or anniversary projects. Look out for more wedding projects using this Making Memories collection.
Thanks for sharing your ideas & exquisite cards with us all, Sin Yee! We look forward to seeing more of her works in time to come. Have a great week ahead everyone!
Look out for these, on sale next week, our first ever card kit. We’re still trying to see how many more cards we can come up with from the kit =)
Colours turned down. Mixing patterned paper. ( & still in love with flowers) In this layout I used at least 8 patterned papers, from a few different collections & brands. Who knew yellow would work with purple! =)
Flowery products have never been prettier! Use different textures , even rub ons, choosing complimentary colors to unify your layout.
I’m also loving die cut shapes and messing them up. I’m not really a technique person. What I really like is working with colour schemes & combos and being surprised

I’ve never really been a big fan of die cut machines despite trying Esther’s cricut before and Sheila urging me to try the Slice. I always thought it’d be a big hassle and preferred to settle with manufactured die cut pieces and such. But THEN, i finally got around to testing out the slice and now..i am in love.
Last year I worked with a 6×6 in minibook to record the highlights of the year. I was just thinking of doing something similar when I came across these page protectors. Try using less busy patterned paper so your journaling will show up clearer!
